The Making of Street Style in India
We are here with another dose of fashion, this time it’s
about street style in India. I am from India and I am from fashion capital of India
- “Delhi”. So let me fill you up in this article with all the knowledge about Street
style.
What is Street Style?
Street style is the style that hasn’t come from fashion
weeks or from the World of Fashion. It is inspired by outside of fashion weeks.
It’s generally inspired from youth icons or currently on-going movement, from
individuals who wear Urban Stylish Clothing and who are just being themselves.
Biggest example that I can give is the Japanese Street Style. Now all the big
designers from New York, Milan and Paris go to Japan to get inspired for their
collection.
Now let’s talk about us- I mean India. What are we like in India
as fashion? Does street fashion really exist in India? Answer is Yes. But in
India, fashion does not mean about individualism or being you. We are not there yet.
It’s coming now as people are being more confident and open about their style
whether it is appreciated by millions or not. But you never know when you will
inspire a designer or individual.
In India till now from 50's to 2017, it is all inspired from
Bollywood and its stars. In India, it plays a biggest part to inspire people.
Most of India does not have access to Gucci and LV; not even Zara or Jack and Jones, but they have access to Bollywood. It does not matter how much you earn
but everyone here watches cinema, and we love and love Bollywood! We are obsessed
with it. Most street style comes from Bollywood. In India, getting a shirt or a
trouser stitched is not expensive. If you want Sridevi’s White Lehenga Choli
from ‘Chandni’ or Sadhana’s Hair cut from 60's, most iconic style Bell Bottom Pants
or that hair style Amitabh rock or Kareena’s bubbly avatar from ‘Jab We Met’,
we copied all and well, in India we have brilliant workers who have immense
talent. Let’s take you to Rajasthan- the most colourful and vibrant heritage
that is full of self-expressed style; which inspired half of India. Today all
the younger generation is wearing a simple White Shirt with that Tribal Jewellery, that Sari over Jeans or mirrored Embroidery Blouse or Jeans. All
fashion & accessories online come from Rajasthan. If you don’t have access
to Rajasthan, don’t worry. You’ll get all the cloth & accessories online.
You can get from Asaan. We have easy access to these sites and the best part
is, you get them on discount or on cheaper price.
Now we already talked about how everything for your fashion
need is easily available in India or on various sites. It is easily accessible,
easy home delivery made easy for everyone to be in India. After Bollywood, e-commerce
really changed the face of Street Style in India.
E-commerce sites really brought all the food we need to make
a good stylish dish, now we saw that Sonam’s earrings we really wanted. It’s already
there on one of your favourite site at way lesser price. That jacket Varun Dhawan
rocked is already on sale or that blazer only you liked or you saw on runway
but everyone thought it’s not worth it, you would surely buy it if it’s
available on EMI, so all these factors really boomed street style in India. It
makes us happy and proud that we are not there yet but we will. All these e-commerce
sites promote you to be you, be proud of your personal style.
Instagram
Inspiration:
Instagram culture booming in India- it’s not about naked
bodies, for the fashion lovers it’s one platform to get feed on all the big
news, latest styles and trend from the world of fashion. Now you want that
undercut or manbun you have it, or you want that ombre hair colour, It’s
available to you just with one show of that Instagram picture to your stylist.
You want that distressed jeans, it’s already selling off on WhatsApp through Instagram,
so all these factors are really making India emerge as a street style country
but despite all the above, we will still be that original country; that glam or
Bollywood those colours of Rajasthan and Bihar, those bead work of Gujrat, that
tribal jewellery from north east. Still
all the designers get inspired from all the above, all the international runway
like Milan and Paris get inspired from India; its original street style Saari and Kurta. We take proud to say that yes, we are one of original street style
country in world and will keep inspiring the world.
